Sweltering heat… when will it end?

I can honestly say that in the 11 years I have been doing this I haven’t had to battle such a heat that made a baby sweat! We had planned to do the shoot later in the evening, but of course the day of I checked the weather and they were calling for storms in the early evening. Trying to avoid the storm we moved the time up and battled the heat. Poor baby H didn’t really know what was going on or who I was because there wasn’t time to play and let him get to know me. He did let down his guard pretty fast and started showing me a little personality. We had to get thru it fast before we all melted! Check out this little guy and his beautiful family!

I did this shoot a couple of weeks ago for a father’s day gift. Great idea right? I love getting creative with the theme, but I have to hand it to these girls mom… She found this wonderful little classic train station with a push pull car, an old mail cart an best of a an old red caboose. Great location! AND we had it all to ourselves.

White Pickett Fence

Last Saturday turned out to be beautiful. I was ok with the sun not coming out but I was hoping that it would warm up a little. I had a photo shoot in the morning, it could of been a little warmer for the little tykes that I was shooting.

The sun did come out Saturday afternoon and it lit this setting just perfectly. These photos were to celebrate big sisters birthday. We even went out for ice-cream after because they were so good!

Taking advantage of a location

Needless to say the farm ended up being a beautiful background for this little guy’s photo shoot. Not only did it have a beautiful old red barn, it also had a tire swing, (which he was afraid of), a little playhouse and a rustic chair for him to sit on. I wish I had this at my disposal close to the twin cities! I do travel with clients, so maybe I’ll get to use it again!

A weekend at the farm.

This year for Memorial Day I had the pleasure of staying in an old farm house set amongst the bluffs of Trempealeau County, WI. The house was a part of a local farm, I believe it was the original farmstead for the family. The farm has been in this family since 1899 as indicated on the copula of the barn. It was an awesome little retreat equipped with llamas, chickens and natural beauty.

The black llama was very friendly and loved attention, from my limited experience this isn’t always the norm. They are flighty animals mush like horses can be. The brown llama was not so keen on getting close to the fence when people were around. The rooster was also very interesting to me. Not only did he seem to strut his stuff. He seemed to tell me that the hens were his and I had better keep at a distance. Of-course he never came at me, but his eyes said it all…

It quickly became apparent egg hunting too early in the morning resulted in not finding any eggs. Waiting until 10 o’clock resulted in about 6 eggs! The eggs came in all sorts of colors; green, blue, brown and white. Watching the chickens in their roosts was pretty neat and had a little visitor peek out to see what all the commotion was!

All in all the retreat was a nice, relaxing place with great landscapes.

Baby number two

It is always exciting for me to get the call from a client saying that they are pregnant again! I got to do the maternity and newborn shoot for big brother and now for baby number two. Their living room was perfectly flooded with natural light and we were able to get this little two year-old to show us how excited he is about his baby brother! Mama was so relaxed and easy to work with. I am now anxiously waiting to hear that the baby is here.

It’s spring!

Even though the weather doesn’t reflect it we are officially in spring. Easter will be here before you know it! It is time to get photos done in your child’s Sunday best. I love the look and feel of a classic photo and nothing finishes the photo better than a classic outfit. Here are some baby and toddler outfits I have collected over the years to use for photo shoots for those clients that want a classic style.

Boys get the long eyelashes…

I have been very lucky to take photos of this family for their Christmas cards for many years. It is fun to watch these kids grow up! And can I just say, why do the boys always get the long pretty eyelashes?!?

Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day for family photos. This little two-year-old has big beautiful eyes that charm. She was a little shy at first, but after playing dolls she warmed up right away. I love the pigtails!

Happy Birthday Charlie!!! This cutie didn’t know what to make of the cupcake at first. He played with it for a bit and then decided to dig in. Judging by the reaction to his first bite of frosting he is not going to be a sweet-tooth!!! We went to one of my favorite parks, Irving park in St. Paul to take some more photos. It also happens to be where Charlie’s parents got married. How is that for coming full circle! It was a gorgeous day to document a little boys first birthday!
